Success! We came, we conquered, and it was so much fun! For those of you who aren't aware, Vegfest Los Angeles is a fun filled
plant based festival that has been happening in Los Angeles for 15 years. It's a day to hang and network with like minded individuals, taste some awesome vegan food, listen to amazing speakers and panel discussions, as well as get your cruel-free shopping in. You can even adopt a pet if you so desire!
There were so many plant based businesses sharing their wares and passion for wellness and vegan living, and I was proud to be a part of it, mingling, sharing my knowledge and learning from others. The vibe at Vegfest is always open, warm, and friendly, and you don't have to be a vegan to attend! Everyone is welcome.
As I mentioned, there were a ton of brands to check out and learn from. Here are a few of the purchases I made. Also, the below mentioned brands are kindly offering discounts for those who follow me. If you are not already on my email list, just click HERE, fill out the required info and type "discounts" in the comments section. And I will make sure to get you the codes! xx
I bought a flax linen produce bag from Ambrosia Bag & Long Life Linen, LLC - very cool (should of bought several!). These bags are not only beautiful but they are amazing in their quality and design. They are sustainable and eco-friendly, and they have all the great qualities you need in a produce bag. The natural fibers of flax and linen help to retain moisture when necessary but also offer breathability as needed, so your produce will last forever long. Plus the flax linen fiber is so durable that you will be passing these down to the next generation. These bags come in several different sizes depending on what you want to store and how much moisture you need, or don't need, for your produce. Truly a well thought out produce bag. I highly recommend checking them out.
Next I bought some 100% sustainable, reusable, and washable bamboo straws from Brush with Bamboo. I have been looking for a sustainable eco-friendly type straw for a while now, so when I came across this company, I was on it! According to the owners 1billion plastic, petroleum based, non-biodegradable straws are used everyday worldwide. Ugh...that is definitely filling up our landfills and not environmentally sound. The straws from Brush with Bamboo are made from whole bamboo stalks so nothing is re-compressed or processed. I did ask if they had a brush to clean the straws and they said they are getting ready to launch this product in a couple of months. In the meantime you can clean the straws by placing them in a jar of warm soapy water and shaking, buy a small brush, or even use a pipe cleaner. These straws are gorgeous and very durable. Again, because of the sustainability factor, they will last a very long time. Check out their website!
Moving on, I am all about glass for water bottles. I know the stainless steel bottles are popular, but for me personally I still do not like the idea of drinking or consuming anything sitting in any type of metal. Of course I do it on occasion but I will always prefer glass over stainless. So again, I have been eyeing glass bottles and there are some very good ones out there, but the water bottle/glass infuser from Libre really caught my eye. First the quality and structure of how it is made is excellent. The LIbre bottle is a combination of glass, protected by a BPA-free poly exterior, and it keeps drinks either very hot or very cold. To me, that is very cool! It also has a removable stainless filter so you can either steep your own tea leaves or place herbs and fruit directly into the glass container and not worry about drinking up gritty herb leaves or fruit seeds. Again, a very well thought out product, plus the color of the bottle I bought is so pretty. It's called Classic Silver, and I really like! ;-)
My final purchase was a personal gift. I bought a beautiful necklace from Kyle Chan Design, and it is called a Love Initial Necklace. The necklace is a shorter length chain, although you can get a longer chain if you wish, and it holds 3 hand stamped pendants with my children's initials. Just gorgeous, I smile every time I look at it. When I told my daughter I had made this purchase she said the necklace should have been a gift from them. But I say sometimes you just gotta take care of yourself and do what's in your heart. This purchase sure made me feel special, and I just consider it a Mother's Day gift...to me! ;-)
The speakers at VegfestLA were wonderful as well, from all walks of life. Some were in the health profession, others were bloggers, filmmakers, and animal rights activists. There was something for everyone and we can all learn from each other. That part I love.
Overall it was a wonderful day and I was truly in my happy place. Nutrition is extremely important in regards to health, wellness, and longevity, but it is not the only thing. What may start as cleaning up your diet to prevent disease, lose a few pounds etc., may very well extend toward sleep patterns, thought patterns, emotional health and more. And in terms of environmental impact, how gently we live in this world can also be part of your wellness journey. Lots to consider, but all good things.
Thank you to Vegfest Los Angeles 2018. We had a ball, definitely learned a thing or two, and we will be back next year - FO SURE!
