to weigh or not to weigh

I'm not gonna lie, I watch my weight.
…
There was a time when I refused to weigh myself. Mainly because I had a bit of an eating issue. More of a professional thing than
anything else. Being a professional dancer required me to look a certain way, have a certain physique, in order to pay my bills. So yeah, the eating thing played into my head during those years.
…
When I stopped dancing professionally, I eased up on myself, stopped stepping on the scale and, not surprisingly, I lost a few pounds and settled into a healthy weight for my body - and for my mind.
…
Today, I weigh myself almost everyday. Not to freak out about it but like any other number - blood pressure, blood glucose, cholesterol etc., it matters. We need to be honest with ourselves and our health, and numbers don’t lie. Well okay, maybe sometimes the people who look at those numbers don’t actually know how to read those numbers, but I don’t think they’re “lying”.
…
We all go off our eating regimen from time to time, whatever that eating plan may be. So keeping an eye on your numbers will only help you get back on track, sooner rather than later.
…
Heading into summer, we started a new exercise routine at this house. Consequently my son and I have been working out quite heavy this past week, and I can feel my appetite increasing by the day. My body is needing/wanting more calories. That’s okay, I don’t panic over it. I continued with my way of eating for the week, feeling the cravings getting stronger and stronger. This morning I made the conscious decision to allow myself to eat purely for comfort, to really listen to what my body was craving. This morning it was craving warm, comforting and filling, carbohydrate rich foods. Okay, cool. I then asked myself, with this in mind, how can I make what I am craving feel indulgent yet not go totally crazy off my way of eating to where I might feel sick afterwards.
…
My decision... 4 organic buckwheat pancakes. 2 topped with pure raspberry fruit spread (no added sugar), and 2 with pure maple syrup. And yes, I did eat all of them. Did I need to eat all of them? Probably not. Could I have stopped at 2? Yes definitely. But I know myself. If I don’t eat what sounds perfectly satisfying to me - just for one meal - then I will continue with that craving feeling for 4,5, or 6 meals or more. At this point it’s a mental game, not a physical one, but still - this is about overall health, health for the long run, longevity health. So sometimes you just gotta. Key word being "sometimes".
…
So I indulge. Sit, looking out my beautiful kitchen window, music in the background, cup of fresh coffee in hand, staring at warm hot healthy-ish pancakes. Sit. Relax. Indulge and enjoy.
...

When I am done I move on. The craving is satisfied and I am right back into my regular eating regimen. I don't dwell or make a big deal out of it.
...
Occasionally allowing keeps things in perspective. Knowing perfection is not possible can ironically bring my eating closer to perfection. When I fight against myself is when I lose. Crazy how the brain works.

…
What do you think? How do you handle food cravings? Do you ignore so hard until you indulge so much? Or are you gentler to yourself, and really listen and respect your own body? I'd love to know. Please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.
…
Happy Friday and weekend to all!
